Advanced bridge layer for engineering troops
At Army 2016 the Russian Engineering Troops display the TMM-3M2 heavy mechanized bridgelayer developed by Kostroma Region-based Galich Mobile Crane Plant (abbreviated to GAKZ in Russian).
The TMM-3M2 is a derivative of the TMM-3M heavy mechanized bridge layer, which entered service with the Soviet Army in 1974 on the KrAZ-255B truck chassis. After 1991, the baseline was mounted on the Ural-4310 truck platform.
The new model is mounted on the KamAZ-53501 chassis. Four such vehicle comprise a single unit. The TMM-3M2’s primary characteristics are virtually identical to those of the baseline variant.
The TMM-3M2 is used for erecting temporary bridges over obstacles measuring up to 40 m in width and up to 3 m in depth. It is intended for tracked and wheeled vehicles weighing up to 60 t. The bridge comprises four foldable spans, each measuring 10.5 m in length when fully unfolded. Three of the four spans are fitted with collapsible, adjustable-height metal supports.
The new bridge layer may enter service by year-end. In mid-July, the vehicle’s capabilities were demonstrated to Lt-Gen Yuri Stavitsky, Сommander of the Engineering Troops, at the service’s Murom, Vladimir region-based facility.
